The COLORADO of the south of France. The name of the town comes from the word Rouge (red in French) thanks to the extraordinary red soil of the mountain.
Rousillion is a beautiful village with small streets, most of the houses are painted in this beautiful reddish brown color!
It's actually a tiny town, with a population of less than 1,300 people. Located about an hour and 15 min from Aix-en-Provence.
A local market opens in town every morning and as you walk through the crowded houses you'll see shops that sell small olive trees and colorful sand with different cool uses.
Church bells at the top of the hill will accompany your walk through the streets.
The main attraction of the town and the reason why you should not miss the visit are the ochre cliffs - the Colorado of southern France! Reddish mountains on which the town is located. At the center of the town you'll see signs to the walking path between the cliffs (you shouldn't be wearing white shoes! In general, it is preferable to wear dark clothes ..).
You will have two options: a short walk of about 20-35 minutes or a longer walk of about 50 minutes.
The path to the longer walk starts in the middle of the short path so you can decide over there rather to continue or not.
The two tracks are circular and will take you back to the starting point
During the summer, the entrance is open for visitors from 9:00 to19: 30 (last entry at 19:30) and you are evacuated around 20:30 from the reserve. Entrance is at a nominal cost of € 2.5 and free for children under the age of 10.
To park your car look for the sign to the Parking lot "Les Ocres parking", and the parking itself costs about 3 EUR for the day (yes, cheap).
